Dear Parents and Students,
I hope everyone had a great summer and is ready to start off the school year refreshed and energized. I am writing to inform both parents and students of some very important program dates as we approach the beginning of the school year.
Fall Sports Meeting: Monday August 10th 6:30 p.m.
All CHS students planning to participate in high school Fall sports need to attend the Fall sports meeting on Monday, August 10th. We will start in the auditorium and then have sport specific break out meetings. If you are considering a Fall sport please plan on attending.
Freshman/New Student Orientation with iPad Program Tuesday August 11th 6:30 p.m.
All 9th grade and transfer students need to attend a presentation in the HS auditorium at 6:30 p.m. with a parent or guardian. Orientation will be combined with a mandatory HS iPad program. If you are attending this orientation your iPad program will be included and your family does NOT need to come again the 12th or 13th. If you have older siblings in the high school they are welcome to attend the iPad program this night with parents and new student. Your new student will also have the opportunity to see their schedule, check their locker and find their classrooms (which should eliminate some stress on the first day of school)! There will be representatives from various clubs/activities on hand to visit with your child. Studies have shown that “involved” students are more successful in school and we would like to find an activity for everyone.
HS iPad Program: Wednesday August 12th and Thursday August 13th
In order to be as accommodating as possible, we will be hosting three different high school iPad presentations this year (one of them alongside the new student orientation). If you do not have a student attending the new student/9th grade orientation, you will want to attend programs either Wednesday August 12th or Thursday August 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the HS auditorium in order for your student to get a school issued iPad this year. Just like previous years, students MUST be accompanied to this presentation by parents/guardians in order to receive a school iPad. If a student attends one of the presentations alone they will not be allowed to take an iPad home or sign the agreement paperwork. If you are unable to make an iPad program you will need to set up a private appointment with Mr. Paopao to listen to the presentation and sign the paperwork. Private appointments will be unavailable until the week of August 24th, the week after school begins, so we HIGHLY recommend making every effort to attend one of the programs so your student will have their iPad on the first day of school. If you are concerned you cannot make one of the presentations on either the 12th or 13th please call the guidance office 432-0725 to set up an appointment starting the week of August 24th.
The deadline for Fall schedule changes was April 15, however I do understand that career interest and course changes can happen during the summer. If there are any students that would like to look at their schedules for a possible change this semester, I will be in my office each day until school starts. I would be happy to look at any schedule to see if a change is possible these next two weeks. However, there will be NO changing schedules once school begins, unless requested by a teacher or there is a mistake in your schedule (example: duplicate classes, missing pre-requisite class, ect). This means you cannot try out or “test” a class for a few days and then switch. Please come see me the next two weeks if you are interested in a schedule change. If you are wanting to make a schedule change for the Spring semester don’t fret you still have time. I will be making schedule changes for Spring semester up until Christmas break, the only schedules that will be locked in once school starts are those for the Fall. Please see me now if needing a change. Reminder: Nothing you do to prepare for your journey after high school can compare to quality and rigorous classes. Taking a rigorous schedule makes you more marketable to colleges and employers, as well as prepares you for standardized tests such as ACT, SAT, ASVAB ect. Colleges around the country are telling counselors that this is the number one variable they check when considering schools for admission and scholarships.
First Day of School
Last reminder, first day of school is a 1:30 out on August 19th! We will start the day out in the HS auditorium.
Enjoy the last two weeks of summer break! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call or email.
